This unique project came from a customer who loved the elegant lines and comfort of her affordable Decathlon step-through bike, but needed a little electrical assist to motivate her to ride more and drive less. That’s where we came in.
At Rebellion Bike, we believe that every bike—regardless of its price point—has the potential to become something truly special with the right upgrades. So, we transformed this simple city bike into a stealthy electric commuter that looks almost completely unmodified from the outside.
Key Custom Modifications:

Hydraulic Brakes Upgrade: We swapped out the original brakes for Magura hydraulic rim brakes front and rear, offering superior stopping power and minimal maintenance.

Rear Hub Motor: A Bafang geared rear hub motor provides smooth, reliable pedal assist, quietly integrated into the rear wheel for a natural ride feel.

Hidden Electronics: At the customer’s request, all electronics—including the battery, controller, and wiring—were routed into a custom pannier to preserve the bike’s clean silhouette.

Custom Pannier by Independent Designer: We partnered with an Etsy artisan to source a sustainable fabric pannier. We then reinforced it with a hard back and internal supports to safely house the e-bike components, keeping everything tidy and secure.

Minimalist Setup: There’s no handlebar display, no visible battery mount, and carefully routed wiring, making it nearly impossible to tell the bike is electric at all.
A Seamless Urban Commuter
This project turned a low-cost step-through into a fully functioning e-bike with the appearance and ride quality of a high-end city commuter. The customer now regularly chooses to cycle to work over driving—a win for her health, her wallet, and the environment.
