Sustainability for us, is not an extra consideration, it is at the very heart of what we do in every aspect of life, in and outside of this caring and honest business. Sustainability is what we all must thrive for as much as we can, to ensure life on this beautiful planet can continue for as long as possible, with as much life, vibrancy and diversity as possible. Look after nature and the planet and it will look after us.
This is exactly why we take broken ebikes, refurbish them, and re-sell. It is a direct way of being part of a circular economy. E-bikes are not a truly sustainable form of transport, let’s not pretend they are. There are parts involved that get to the end of their service life that have been dug from mines in the form of Lithium and Cobalt to create the batteries. But what e-bikes are, is a huge leap forwards, a far more sustainable transportation option than the likes of cars, which should be embraced across a wide spectrum of use-cases. By choosing to buy secondhand your purchase is not putting any further strain on the world’s resources, and in fact, is helping to add to the positive effects of a circular economy. Let’s all repair and refurbish, rather than consume and throw-away, wherever possible.
Here at Rebellion Bike we take pride in all aspects of sustainability wherever we can. From choosing only environmentally friendly lubricant and cleaning products to use in the workshop, to none of our packaging for website orders containing any plastic (unless due to the direct re-use of secondhand packaging that we have received). The workshop is on the greenest energy tariff we could find and we have plans to fit a solar and battery install next year. We are looking into the option of being able to offer second hand motors as and when available, but the reason we offer the new retro-fit electric bike conversion kits, is because adding new electronics to a bike that you already own, has far less of an impact on the environment than that of buying an entirely new E-bike. You also get to customise your bike, meaning you get a genuine one off, with the extra good feeling of making it yourself. There is an absolute plethora of amazing second hand bikes gagging to be converted to electric, to be rejuvenated into a game-changing transportation option, for that pop to the shop, long distance commute or car journey replacement. You will likely then fall in love with your new form of transportation and use it instead of other, more polluting forms of transport.
